Kaitlin Broadbent

Undergrad at Texas State University

I’m Kaitlin Broadbent! I’m a junior at Texas State University getting a BS in Electronic Media and Mass Communications along with minors in History and Media Studies. I know history doesn’t seem to fit in there but I promise it has its purpose. Originally from Maryland, I moved to Austin when I was 18 so I could go to Austin Community College and earn an AA in Radio-Television-Film. What do you get when you combine history and film? You get historical dramas! Films like Marie Antoinette, Anna Karenina, and Les Mis along with shows like Victoria, Reign, Game of Thrones, Medici, and Versailles are what inspire me most. I love the deep tension and romance associated with the under-appreciated genre. I like to think of myself as a chill film student, I can enjoy a movie without deep psychoanalysis but if anyone were to ask I could go on for a while. I’m more guilty of getting distracted thinking about how the film was technically created. With this blog I wanted to flex my analysis muscles a little and think harder about movies we just accept as good (according to Nick at least) without really thinking about why.

Besides watching movies, I also
  • Write and edit my own films
  • Work as a boom operator and run on set sound production
  • Starbucks Shift Supervisor
  • Single Cat Mom
  • Avid hair and makeup fan
